I Lied….

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

Well I was going to do some more posts, but…..

As it stands this is the last post I’m writing for Love Manga.

I’ll leave the site as it is but I’ve removed the ability to leave comments (they are still there, just not visible).

I’m not particularly great at these sort of things, so I’ll just say thanks to everyone who has participated in Love Manga, and just to let everyone know that I’m not abandoning Manga, I’m just going to be reading it rather then commentating.

Now back to my page by page comparison of Dark Horse’s Crying Freeman over Viz Media’s version…. because I must spot all the differences!

It’s big

Friday, April 7th, 2006

Sorry for the lack of posts and comments the last couple of days, but work was demanding my attention.

If you don’t believe that there is always the other excuse that the new and improved Crying Freeman volume 01 arrived at home and I’ve been closeted away with that, enjoying its graphical charms.

I’ll leave it to you to pick which seems the more likely.

Post more tonight.

RSOM 6 winners

Sunday, April 2nd, 2006

Tokyopop have the winners up of the 6th Rising Stars of Manga (yay I picked 4 out of 4!).

The Grand Prize
Rob Ten Pas for Bomango

Second Place
Yasmin Saaka for Girl/Boy

Third Place
Eden for Departure

People’s Choice and Runner Up
JD. Robinson for 10 Simple Rules

Runners Up
Anthony Go Wu for Orphans

Ryo Kawakami (writer/artist) and Jamison Taylor (editor) for Little Miss Witch Hater

Nichol for Chronicles of the Big Feet

Congratulations everyone!

Without even wasting a breath they jump straight into RSOM7, starting now and ending at January 12th 2007. This one features a nice slight twist as the $1000 prizes will be genre based rather then favourites based as it has been before. So we will have a Drama winner, a Horror winner as well as the people’s choice award.
I’m very much interested in this, it can be quiet easy to spot which titles are going to go further then most, I’m thinking more humorous one’s here so splitting it down into genre would give a much needed balance to RSOM7. Plus I’m all over the mystery genre, when was the last mystery title in RSOM?

Of course with all that, I was kind of hoping rather naively that maybe something would have been said officially about the Samurai Zombie entry. One could say that the fact it isn’t in the list above is answer enough, but I was looking for Tokyopop’s stance on this outside of Lillian’s comments in my previous thread.
It would be a shame really if this just got brushed under the carpet, of which this is close to becoming as RSOM will take a back seat now till January, as I like seeing Tokyopop as Tokyopop rather then an extension of CMX’s publicity department.

Whilst we are on Tokyopop, anyone like the new look site? It is kind of funky looking but why did they have to lose the one piece of functionality I only ever used there. I’m talking about the drop-down menus that you get when you highlight news, books, videos. They were really useful, now it takes twice as long to get to a particular manga’s property page. I guess I’m just set in my ways when it comes to using publishers websites. ^.^
